Advent of movies brought about several changes in the entire world. It became one of the main mediums of entertainment for the general mass. To reach out to each and every clan in a society theatres started cropping up in different niches of the world. Movie theatres gave way to chain of theatres, multiplexes and even megaplexes. Among many well known theatres in United States of America the Dickinson Theatres have their own position. They are basically movie theatre chain located in Overland Park city of state of Kansas. Till date Dickinson Theatre has spread its wings in 10 states of America, owning 36 theatres with 337 screens. The chief founder of Dickinson Theatres was Glen W Dickinson Sr. and presently the CEO is John Hartley.

The founder Glen W Dickinson Sr. left his family business to make money in the theatre business and came up with the Dickinson Theatres in 1920. It started off from a two screen theatre in Manhattan, which was named as The Manhattan Marshall Theatre. The primary motive of this theatre was to capture the crowd of the college town. This noted theatre became one of the most renowned theatres of that era and people flock to these movie theatres to view the latest movies. After the success of this movie theatre Glen W Dickinson Sr. opened the second theatre in Lawrence city of state of Kansas, which is based just 2 hours away from Manhattan. After the foundation of these two theatres the progress of Dickinson Theatres did not have any hindrance.

Soon theatres came up in Ellsworth, Great Bend, Missouri, Junction City, Beloit and Springfield. Within 11 years of the inception stage of Dickinson Theatres, it already operated a total of 26 theatres, across the country. In 1946 Dickinson Theatres witnessed the advent of the first drive-in theatre, located in Pittsburg city. These drive-in theatres gave immense comfort to the audiences; people could rest inside their own cars while watching the movies. With the success of the company’s first drive-in theatre, Dickinson Theatres came up with 3 more drive-in theatres, within a short span of time. From 1963 the company passed on to the hands of Glen Dickinson Jr., who brought in a great deal of laurels and success to the company.

Within 1995 Dickinson Theatres already operated 168 screens in 39 different locations. Later in the year 1999 Wood Dickinson left this company in the hands of its present CEO and President, John Hartley and went ahead with his own film production company. Since then Dickinson Theatres has undergone further changes and modifications, which has increased its number of screens to 337. The unmatched amenities, interior decorations, car parking facility, sound quality, seating arrangement and so forth makes these theatres one of the best in the country.
